In January, Dr. Joacim Rocklöv, Dr. Marina Treskova, Dr. Prasad Liyanage, and Ms. Senani Dayabandara visited Sri Lanka, marking the launch of new project on Leptospirosis.

The new project is being implemented in close collaboration with local communities, veterinary experts and the epidemiologists at the Epidemiology Unit,  Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka. The visit included an official project kick-off meeting, scoping field visits, and focused group discussions with key stakeholders. The meeting was hosted by the chief epidemiologist with the participation of the Deputy Director General of Public Health service (DDG-PHS1), the president of the College of Community Physicians Sri Lanka (CCPSL) and One-Health steering committee members.

During the visit, the team also attended the inauguration ceremony of the SHRI (Sri Lankan Health Research and Innovation), focusing on planetary health, and met with the maths department and the National Science Foundation in Sri Lanka.

The One Health Integrated Surveillance for Zoonotic Diseases project aims to apply One Health approaches and translate science into meaningful public health impact. The project aims to develop a driver-based integrated One Health surveillance system for leptospirosis, systematically linking epidemiological, environmental, animal, and laboratory data.
