Integrating citizen science data for modelling- tick borne encephalitis risk in Sweden

Yichao Liu, PhD Candidate at Hei-Planet Heidelberg, participated in the 4th Swiss Implementation Science Conference 2026, held in Zurich from 11–13 February 2026.
During the poster walk session, he presented a poster titled:

“ Integrating citizen science data for modelling- tick-borne encephalitis risk in Sweden.”

This study holds particular importance in light of recent reports indicating a rising trend in tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) cases across Europe. His research investigated the drivers of TBE and tick distributions in Sweden using a predictive modelling framework by integrating Climate data, environmental variables, socio-economic indicators, and citizen science reports.

The research results contribute valuable insights for developing spatial risk mapping and predictive tools to support healthcare planning and disease prevention strategies.

Congratulations dear Yichao Liu 👏 👏 👏
