Hei-Planet visited South Africa as part of the Heidelberg-Cape Town Network (heiAIMS)

In January 2025, Prof. Dr. Joacim Rocklöv and Dr. Marina Treskova visited the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Cape Town, South Africa, and shared their expertise with students on the role of AI in public health and the application of data-driven approaches to real-world problems.

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Cape Town, South Africa, and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Scientific Computing at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, have established a strategic network with the aim of implementing joint projects in mathematics and deepening existing collaborations. The Heidelberg-Cape Town Network for Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computing (heiAIMS) “will lead to a close integration of research at both locations with innovative teaching formats“, says Dr. Michael Winckler, Administrative Director at the IWR and PI of the project.
