The Planetary Health Workshop was held on March 17th and 18th at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing, Heidelberg University.
The workshop brought together modellers and non-modellers from the European Union’s Planetary Health Cluster research projects in Heidelberg to discuss modelling for planetary health and related topics.
The workshop featured work across different aspects of planetary health, through poster presentations and in-depth discussions on models and planetary health research developed by participants. Beyond technical exchange, the event created space for critical dialogue, where participants shared their real-world experiences and reflected on the need for changing models into meaningful impact.
A key point that emerged out of discussions was the need to move beyond disciplines and engage with planetary health as an interconnected “planetary health process.” Discussions emphasized the need to recognize different aspects of work related to planetary health, finding ways to implement effective, real-world solutions, and the current challenges faced by researchers.
Early-career researchers were particularly encouraged to share their experiences, learning, and challenges, and the importance of their work was recognized in shaping the future of planetary health research.
The group also committed to sustaining this momentum by maintaining the network and continuing to collaborate toward outcomes in planetary health.
