Hei-Planet Team Retreat – June 26, 2025

On June 26, 2025, the Hei-Planet team came together for a retreat- an occasion for reflection, connection, and a touch of adventure. We began our day at the Heidelberg Guest House over coffee and snacks while we took our time to reflect on our team dynamics.

The morning session was a space for dialogue and reflection. Together, we explored how we function as a team—what we value, where we thrive, and where we can grow. It was heartening to hear that many colleagues view Hei-Planet as a kind, inclusive, and academically vibrant environment. Alongside the positive feedback, team members also shared constructive ideas for enhancing communication,  engagement, and stronger collaboration. The conversation also shared future aspirations, with many expressing areas where they want to work more and exploring new possibilities for interdisciplinary teamwork.

In the afternoon, we headed out to Weinheim for a scenic hike. As we walked through the lush green trails, surrounded by nature and history, we got the time to connect among ourselves outside of our usual work environment.

One of the highlights was our visit to the two iconic castles that give Weinheim its nickname, “The City of Two Castles.” Our first stop was the Romanesque-style Wachenburg Castle. Our second stop, Windeck Castle Ruins, offered a panoramic view of the Rhine Valley.

Windeck’s beer garden was a lovely spot to pause, share a laugh, and take in the beauty of our surroundings. A brief summer rain gave us the perfect excuse to explore the castle restaurant’s warm, elegant interior—and of course, to enjoy a drink and casual chat in its cozy garden.

We also wandered through the serene Castle Palace Park, designed as an English landscape garden. The park was beautiful with a pond, unique trees, and a botanical garden.

We wrapped up the day with a delicious dinner at a local restaurant with great food and good conversation.

The retreat was a good break from everyday work environment and we returned with a stronger sense of connection and a collaborative spirit that can take Hei-Planet forward.
