One Health Approaches to Climate-Sensitive Infectious Diseases and Nature-based Solutions

Join this summer in Rotterdam and Heidelberg for an intensive, international Two-Week One Health Summer School focused on climate-sensitive infectious diseases and Nature-based Solutions (NbS). This programme is designed to deepen your understanding of One Health concepts and equip you with practical tools to study, analyse, and address emerging infectious disease risks in a changing climate.
About the Summer School
This immersive summer school brings together early-career researchers, practitioners, and students for a transformative learning experience across two leading European academic hubs. Participants will explore the complex connections between infectious diseases, climate change, and Nature-based Solutions while gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge One Health methods.
The programme combines:
- Theoretical foundations of One Health and climate-sensitive infectious diseases
- Fieldwork and laboratory training
- Data analysis and modelling workshops
- Soft-skills development
- Extensive networking opportunities with international experts and peers
A Joint Initiative
Erasmus MC and Heidelberg University have joined forces to deliver a unique, interdisciplinary programme. Together, they offer a learning environment that integrates human, animal, and environmental health perspectives, preparing participants to understand and respond to changing risks of vector-borne and other climate-sensitive diseases.
Who Can Apply?
The One Health Summer School welcomes applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, including:
- Master’s and PhD students
- Early-career researchers
- Professionals and practitioners
Relevant disciplines include (but are not limited to):
- Health and medical sciences
- Veterinary medicine
- Ecology and environmental sciences
- Geography and data science
- Nature-based Solutions development
There are no strict disciplinary restrictions, but applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in climate-sensitive infectious diseases, Nature-based Solutions, and the One Health approach.
