AI, Climate Change, and Infectious Diseases

The public lecture on AI, climate change and infectious diseases which was given as part of the Ruperto Carola Ringvorlesung, the public lecture series at Heidelberg University is now available on YouTube.

In his lecture, Dr Joacim Rocklöv talks about research that bridges AI, climate change, and infectious disease.

Some topics covered in the lecture include:

-What are the research efforts in climate-sensitive infectious diseases, and particularly vector-borne diseases?

-Examples of climate-sensitive infectious diseases , their outbreaks- Aedes-borne diseases, West Nile virus, and Leptospirosis in South-East Asia

-Data on mosquito population in Europe: how do the two primary drivers, such as climate and mobility, impact the mosquito population?

-Mathematical models that can be used for predicting disease outbreaks

-How AI can be used for studying climate change, for creating efficient models for better prediction and forecasting, and for using AI technology for better data collection

-Novel surveillance streams using AI to collect more data and improve the efficiency of models- such as AI smart traps, AI bioacoustics, AI earth observation, AI citizen science
