The Lancet Countdown (LCD) Europe is an interdisciplinary, international research collaboration that uses 42 indicators to examine the impact of advancing climate change on health in Europe – and the political responses to it. On May 13, 2024, the second report with the latest research results from LCD Europe was published in the renowned journal Lancet Public Health.

The University of Heidelberg is part of the LCD Europe research cooperation and, together with the German Alliance for Climate Change and Health (KLUG e.V.) and the Centre for Planetary Health Policy (CPHP), hosted a launch event on May 23. Together with experts from politics, science, practice, and civil society, they presented the key scientific findings of the current report and placed them in the local German context.

The event gathered over 300 participants (in person and online). Among the panel of distinguished speakers were Prof. Dr. Joacim Rocklöv from the University of Heidelberg, Peter Löffler from the European Commission, DG Climate Action, and Francesca Racioppi from WHO European Centre for Environment and Health.

The event and the topic of climate change and health caught the attention of the national German news. German major TV channel Das Erste showcased the Lancet Report on national news and included interviews from Prof. Dr. Joacim Rocklöv and Dr. Marina Treskova.
