Infectious Disease Modelling Using Genomics

Luis Nottmayer, PhD candidate at Hei-Planet, recently attended the Infectious Disease Modelling Using Genomics course at EMBL Cambridge!

This intensive week-long course, held in September 2025, offered participants a deeper understanding of concepts, methods, and tools for conducting infectious disease modelling, as well as for further developing models by leveraging genomic data.

The course allowed participants to learn more about:

  • SIR (Susceptible–Infectious–Recovered) models and how to tailor them to specific pathogens
  • Apply these models to epidemic scenarios to predict changes in case numbers and disease severity
  • Integrating genomic data into models to explore and anticipate pathogen evolution

Luis will be sharing her learnings with the rest of the team in her upcoming presentation later this month.
